30th Annual West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament - AAA

March 3-5, 1977
Parkersburg Memorial Fieldhouse, Parkersburg, WV

Wheeling Park High School captured the 1977 AAA team title in its first year of existence as a consolidation of Wheeling High, Tridelphia, and 1976 AA/A champion Warwood.

Parkersburg High entered the tournament as the favorite on the basis of 4 individual regional championships. However, when the dust settled Park came out on top with John Marshall, Parkersburg South, and Parkersburg High rounding out the top four with only a 3 1/2 point difference between first and fourth place.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Fairmont. However, a water problem in Fairmont caused the tournament to be delayed a week and relocated to Parkersburg.

Brad Dornick of Parkersburg South, three time state champ, received OW award, while Wheeling Park Coach Eric Carder was named AAA Coach of the Year. In addition, Huntington Coach Bill Archer received a special presentation for his contributions to West Virginia wrestling.
