Muhamed McBryde New Assistant At WVU

Postby KBratke » Mon Aug 30, 2021 6:53 pm

WVU Wrestling is excited to announce that we have hired Muhammed McBryde as our new volunteer assistant coach. McBryde wrestled collegiately at Buffalo but hit his stride on the freestyle scene.

In 2019, he won the U23 World Team Trials and would finish 5th at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. After graduating from Buffalo, McBryde spent some time at his alma mater as the volunteer assistant. McBryde then made the move to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where he has been the main training partner for world champion and Olympic bronze medalist J'den Cox.

However, McBryde is still active on the Senior level himself. In 2020, he won the Guelph Open in Canada, was sixth at the prestigious 2021 Matteo Pellicone in Rome, and was recently fifth at Senior Nationals in May. McBryde will be making his way to Morgantown after competing in the 2021 World Team Trials September 11-12 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

We're excited as a staff to work with Muhamed, and our big guys can't wait for him to get in the room.

Let's Go Mountaineers!

Sounds great. His story is quite interesting and worth looking into. Very smart guy with tons of upside! Congrats to him and the Coaching staff. Looking forward to a great season.

I think this is a good pick up for the Mountaineers. A young man who can connect well with the athletes, he has coaching experience, and he is someone who is still competing himself. Everyone needs to show some support and buy a tee shirt and/or a raffle ticket so the RTC can keep these men on the mat and traveling around to different tournaments in the off season. That is a very critical part of the recruiting process. Good luck to all and LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!

Yes, his story is extraordinarily interesting and despite being around for what seems like forever he is still quite young. He will be a good addition for those upper middle weights in terms of active wrestling. However, I believe he brings a lot to the program outside of just his wrestling knowledge as well. He will be a good mentor for the young men.
