BEAR TRACKS 2021 – New World Disorder
Edition 1
Date of Issue: March 8, 2021
Weight Classes: 132 to 145
Ranking Overview:
• Wrestlers are ranked based on how they placed at last season’s state tournament.
• Non-placing wrestlers get ranked for wins over returning state placers.
• Non-placing wrestlers get ranked for close losses to returning state placers.
• Non-placing wrestlers now get ranked for significant performance such as winning a tournament or placing well in a more substantial tournament.
• As matches occur, head to head wins drive the ranking train.
• Returning state tournament qualifiers have to do something significant this season to get ranked.
• Due to social distancing requirements, Bear Tracks will now be broken down into four different weight class ranges. Based on previous years’ feedback, many of you watch one or two weight classes very closely.

He is on the radar. However, being a freshman, he has to sit edition 1 out.
Parkersburg South is in this weekend's WSAZ. It is only 8 teams, but many of the teams are really good.
I think he is seeded #2.
It will all shake out this week.
Thanks

Be careful not putting that Wright kid in. People will jump your rankings for that.
Also that Velas jump from 106? To 148. I’d put money on him moving sooner rather than later.
Plus the Park result didn’t have Gooch as far as I could remember. Wonder if he makes 48 for them in the future or what’s going on.
Either way thanks for posting.

So what you are saying in Wrights defense that Walls and Felix are not freshmen?

Walls defeated a returning state fourth placer in Easton. This is a very significant win. I have now learned that Walls is the #1 seed at the upcoming WSAZ. Easton was ranked because of his 4th place finish. Walls defeated him. Walls now gets ranked.
Felix lost to a returning state champion by only 1 point. This is also very significant. Ranking by significant losses is something I have not done until this season. Felix's one point loss to a champ is noteworthy.
Wright has not had any IN season, West Virginia matches YET that have been significant.
I am fully aware that the "guidelines" I have used in the past and now in this season are simply delaying where Wright will be. Raike and Bartee went through the same process two seasons ago.
However, Wright has the state's fastest pin so far in 7 seconds. That is logged on another report that hasn't come out yet.

I am following the same process as the past 2 seasons. I am sure all will be right regarding Wright.
When Velas changes weight classes, he will be changed accordingly. All wrestlers are ranked where they are competing.
Thanks

It seems like you need to post a completely separate thread entitled "Lessons In How Bearhugger's Rankings Are Totally Different From Any Previous Conventional Rankings". They use only the results of last years state tournament as a starting point and then only use results from the current year. I believe the intent is to eliminate any "gut feelings" or "personal bias". I'm not sure I find them as much fun as the "Old Yosemite Sam Method", but they are what they are. I know you have posted this at the start of each of your rankings and also last year, but people just aren't getting it.
