AA/A Regional Question?

Postby Coachtt » Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:59 pm

Who decides where the Regional Tournaments are held in AA/A? I know when I coached in AAA, the region coaches at the seeding meeting voted on host site. This does this not happen in AA/A?

Coachtt,
I'd venture to say many locations are chosen by amenities for visiting teams, as well as the the number of teams local to the area. That seems to make the most sense. Many schools within the regions can't accommodate the number of traveling teams.
Good Luck in your regional.

Not necessarily! Last year AA region 4 was in Calhoun County. There are no hotels or amenities in Calhoun County. I think everyone gets a turn.

The reason, I ask is the AA/A Region 1 tournament has been in Fairmont for the 3rd year in a row and I know there have been several other schools in region interested in hosting. These school have all the amenities to accommodate region teams.

Not that I have much insight, Oak Glen had it 3 years ago, then Fairmont Senior, used to be a Northern Panhandle, then Southern part of region rotation. Then the region expanded to a very large footprint. Guessing travel for you guys and eastern Panhandle have something to do with it. I would guess you can get an answer at seeding meeting.

Good win the other night.

Yeah, Oak Glen 3 years ago, Fairmont past 2 and this year. I was just curious, when I was coach in AAA region 1, it rotated from each school in region, that is whyh I asked. Thank you, it was a exciting evening.
Wish everyone safe travels and good luck at regionals this weekend!

Could it be that the three Fairmont schools are hosting it for their turns three years in a row?

Region 4 AA-A voted last year to use the armory at Millwood, Jackson County, until the next regional alignment. Hopefully, that will be sooner than later the way regions are at this time.

A bit of insight from Coach Bill Archer...

Bids for regional need to be in to Wvssac office in early November.
Those bids are presented by Wvssac at coaches committee meeting.
Coaches are to decide at region the year before who is to bid and host.
Sometimes this isn’t done and they talk to coach from that area and then call school to confirm.
Some regions already have rotation set up.
