Why not two Regionals?

Just curious as to what would be the drawback to have two regionals for AAA? AA/A? Large crowd draw and better chance of getting the 16 most talented wrestlers at the states in each weight class.

I have suggested it for the last couple of years. Some just say no it wouldn't work but don't really give me a reason why not. It would work great for the imbalance in AAA regions but wouldn't work with AA/A as it is configured now. Maybe AA/A could be divided with a smaller tourney for the A division. like an 8 man bracket. Instead of people just saying no it won't work lets discuss it.
Two regions for AAA & AA with 8 qualifiers in each region. 4 from each region in A with only the top 4 placing. I know it would sound crazy for half of the A field placing but lets talk about it.

Its kind of crazy how we name a class A champion when a class A team in a tough AA/A region might not qualify good wrestlers and another class A team in a weak AA/A region might qualify most of their team. How can anyone hope to crown a true team class A champion that way.

It is crazy how the so called weaker region team still scores points at the state tournament against the regions that are stacked. Makes no sense to me how the weaker region wins matches against a tougher region that many teams couldn't crack top 4. Better yet let's just give participation trophies to all. Crazy how this society is this day

So coach112, attempts to fix imbalances = "giving everyone a participation trophy"? Would you agree there are imbalances in the regions? If your answer is no then we have nothing to discuss. At what point does it become ok to fix the imbalances so we aren't giving out participation trophies?

Well this may be one reason why there is not two regionals. How you get participation trophies out of this makes no sense. Can you explain how the 4 region format is better for wrestling than having 2? (Cost, crowd, refs shortage, and most of all better chance of getting the best wrestlers at states)

That’s a crazy stat. Top five from the same region. 64 from the same town.

It's been a long time coming, but finally a solution.
Region 1 combines with Region 2 = new Region ONE (sending six wrestler per weight class)
Region 3 combines with Region 4 minus South and PHS = new Region TWO (sending six wrestlers per weight class)
now the newly created Region THREE consists of South, PHS, South JV, and PHS JV ( Sending only four wrestlers per weight class, because it wouldn't be nice to send six and it would mess up the State brackets)
This way if you're in the top six in the rankings then if you earn it you should make it to the State tournament from your region, with South and PHS not affecting anyone. We're now sure that the best wrestlers are at the State tournament. And it takes a lot of the stress from South and PHS fans and makes all the people in Parkersburg happy.
Granted this is only a solution for AAA

There are approximately 90 high schools in West Virginia. Take the top 30 by enrollment the middle 30 and the bottom 30 and let everybody go to the state tournament. This would eliminate any regions. Attendence would be at all time high at state tournament. Complaints about harder regions and easier regions will be eliminated. But I'm sure the bigger AA schools would complain.

Very good idea!

When I say 90 high schools I'm meaning 90 high schools that participate in wrestling. Just wanted to clarify that.
