Protective eyewear
Protective eyewear
I was told today by my son's eye doc that he wanted my son to wear protective eyewear while wrestling. He is a youth wrestler but I thought I would get more experienced information on this forum. Does anyone know of any rules or have any suggestions for me on this? He does not want to leave this sport, but topics I have read on this from some other forums were not promising.
Re: Protective eyewear
There is a wrestler for Winfield High School who had eye surgery and wears eye protection as prescribed by his doctor. He is allowed to wear them in his matches. They are specially designed to not stick out and protect his eyes from getting accidentally gouged or impacted.
Re: Protective eyewear
Full facemask may be an option.
Re: Protective eyewear
Thought about that but there is still plenty of room for a finger to get thru

May give you more options with goggle type protection. I know it's a lot but hate to deter any kids from participating in the greatest sport in the world.
Re: Protective eyewear
Didn't think about goggles under mask. Thank you!

Re: Protective eyewear
Lehigh University wrestler John Trenge wore goggles most of his college career due to an eye injury.
Hilco makes a junior sized sports goggle for just this type of thing and they are not terribly expensive at $17 http://www.sporteyes.com/hilco-champ-junior.html

Re: Protective eyewear
There is one team in region 4 if you wrestle them it is guaranteed that you will need eye protection. Just stating fact. Happens every match!!

Re: Protective eyewear
The wrestler from Winfield did extensive research on eyewear after lens replacement surgery. They stay in place and have provided excellent protection. They are also safe for his opponents. For more information call Roy Kuhl Sports in Winfield 304-586-4778.
Re: Protective eyewear
Thank you. Will definitely give them a call
