Re: Tough call on Concussions
It seems to me you have made a few points that you feel strongly about. 1)the importance of the concussion issue. 2)the proper ways to evaluate it. 3)your admission to have made an error in judgement on the issue in the past (I presume you had the training and expertise at the time of that error) 4)...

Re: Tough call on Concussions
To those that responded, I don't take any offense at all. My post was not calling anyone person out or saying that I was better than anyone. I was pretty clear that I had been in that situation in the past and made the wrong call. I am pretty sure that athletes take a baseline test at the beginning ...

Re: Regional prediction's for AAA at Parkersburg
I was only off by 1 pick. I had Harper winning for SV at 132. Other than that, I hit it on the head. South performed very well, as expected. I was very happy for Jordan at CM, I had him winning the upset at 106, and he pulled it off. It was a great match. Both those kids are good kids, on and off th...

Tough call on Concussions
Just as I suspected, the situation of a wrestler being allowed to continue wrestling after clearly exhibiting symptoms of being concussed happened ay at Regionals. The kid had to actually be helped to his feet, could not stand on his own, was clearly dazed, and the match was stopped twice as a resul...

Re: Faking injuries
Thanks for the response. Like I said, I had been in that situation....and as a coach, and in that particular instance, as a dad I got caught up in the moment. It was the Regionals and my son was a senior. In the moment, we let him continue...in hindsight it was the absolute wrong call. It is really ...

Re: Faking injuries
With the increased focus on concussions and the long term damage they can cause, what about a wrestler who takes a blow to the head and exhibits signs of a concussion....ie. dizziness, unconsciousness, lack of balance, blurred vision, etc? I am pretty sure in the rule book it says that the contest w...

Re: Coach of the year
I don't agree that the award should always go to the coach of the team that won the state title. Many sports give out COY awards, and they are not always given to the team that won the Superbowl or Championship......it is given to the coach that did the most outstanding job. That is a subjective thi...

I was at the triple A Regionals and in all my years of wrestling I've never seen 2refs make a call and the crowd and parents over turn a call, the refs made let them do there job every time they made a call the fans would yell and say things that's sad.Nice fans south maybe you guys can come to othe...

Re: Predictions For Region 4 AAA Tournament
And just to note.......I agree with vortex, I like the 2 Region set up. I still cannot wrap my head around how the Regions were decided, it makes no good sense. I also agree that it's a dead issue this season, but it should be fixed. North and South. Draw a line in the middle of the state, north of ...

Re: Predictions For Region 4 AAA Tournament
Don't sleep on Siders at 138 or Cook at 285. Those two always have a chance, and can make some noise by wrestling up to their potential. I am not convinced it's a wrap on Martin at 132 or Tucker at 113........that's why they wrestle the matches. I am excited for some great wrestling this weekend.

Re: WSAZ Online Brackets
Loved it!!! Much easier for the wrestlers to know when they are coming up, when to warm up, and what mat to report to. Made it easier on the coaches to not have to go searching for your wrestler. Scoring was easy to find, brackets were easier to follow. All around, it made the tournament better.

Re: Forfeit scoring
Our team has 2-3 holes in it every year, which is frustrating.......but I don't think that it should penalize the team we are facing. It's on us to fill the holes, and have a team that is built for duals. It can be used as something to fuel the energy you put into trying to get the kids to come out....

Re: 145 - Significant Matches
The Flinn vs. Long match this weekend was a great match. Long was up on points deep into the 3rd, and Flinn got a reversal and pinned Long with 27 seconds left on the clock. That is the second time they have wrestled this season so far, both matches were exciting. These two match up well, and I am s...

Re: Alternate Uniforms: Causing More Problems Than It Solves
We wear them at Hurricane. We gave them out to all the weight classes and told them they could either wear the 2 piece option, or the singlet. We have some of the younger kids that like the rash guard and shorts, and some purists that like the singlet. We have not had a grabbing call yet this year. ...

Re: Size DOESN'T Matter
I understand the point both of you are making. What I am saying is that most wrestlers I see, coach, and deal with are sitting +12-15% body fat. Some are at the 19-20% mark. Some of your lower weight classes or more chiseled (muscular appearing) wrestlers are sitting at 8-10%. Anything under 7% in ...

Re: Size DOESN'T Matter
Don't mean to sound naive, but do the weight loss regulations in place not remove the safety and health risk by not allowing kids to remove more weight than is safe? That was and is their intent based on measuring body fat and evidence of dehydration. Are they not yet strict enough? They are plenty...

I believe so. There are several weight classes that will be hotly contested this year. Those wrestlers that worked hard in the off season will shine. I am excited to see the unknowns that rise up. Everyone loves an underdog story.
