Re: Division 1 Wrestlers
Its not all about wrestling either. The head coach of Bloomsburg came to watch my son play football against Capital. They recruit the student and the athlete.

Re: Division 1 Wrestlers
I just went through this process with my son. We had a D1 official visit and he was recruited by several schools from D1 to NWCA club wrestling. Knowing he's not likely to turn wrestling into a profession or make the Olympics, maybe the best choice is the best financial package and best fit. He coul...

Re: Record Breaking South
Congratulations to Parkersburg South in their record breaking year. Although I have not witnessed all of South's teams, I went on records earlier in the season (with friends) that this was the best South team I have ever seen. Once again, the numbers back up ole Bear's BS. :) Interestingly, I menti...

Re: Interesting Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals matches?
My take on the 170 bracket is a question. Would there still be complaining if Starkey beat Parde & Simpkins beat Berrisford? We are calling it stacked, and it clearly is, but would we change our perception to just having good solid matches is the seeds at Regionals were held? I think it is good ...

Re: Any upsets in regionals?
In a mild upset, Jacob Berisford, who has been wrestling exceptionally well, hung around with Kaleb Simpkins until getting the TD in SV. Sets up a wild bottom half of the 170 bracket and leaves Berisford V. Parde in the drivers seat on the top.

Yes, thank you. I appreciate the clarification. My opinion was there is some overlap (grey areas), where some calls could be seen as one or the other and are very much at the discretion of the official. It remains so, for example, some pushing & certainly some head taps (see Zain Retheford V. El...

Years ago 98-05, I was a sports writer in Pa and wrestling was my beat. At the state tournament, there was a fairly lively discussion about how PA was resistant to the idea of moving to a host of dual tournaments and wanted to preserve the home gym dual feel. Some of the issues discussed were the nu...

Re: Sportsmanship
I do have a question for the officials. It is sort-of related to all the noise about last nights East Fairmont match, but I am asking because it raised a curiosity, not to preclude any judgment. Is there a template or rubric to guide what is unsportsmanlike conduct and what is flagrant misconduct? I...

I grew up in PA and Lehigh has an excellent reputation as a top quality school, especially in Engineering. This is a great place to receive an education. The Hawks shall ride on a galloping flaming steed led by Logan Holgorson's transfer, fueled by Kegler's special sauce, and the glory of residing in the same town as Gordon Gee, Bob Huggins, and Barney Fife. Look for the university high hawks to make a run at the team championship. Led by the WV AAA co-coach of the Year, implementing strategic avoidance of some weight classes, and fueled by bucktail's hate of all things south, this team is stacked. Ignoring the fact that their coach took at shot at not...

My understanding is that most of the counties use biofuel in their buses because it is a cheaper product, but it gels at roughly 7 degrees F. Thus, on super cold mornings, its a no go.

I have also seen the most prominent HS football programs in the country make it mandatory for some of their football players to wrestle even if they never wrestle a varsity match(BTW these programs are NOT in WV). Furthermore, ...

I can personally name quite a few that outwardly encourage their players to participate in other sports and then make it impossible to do so and earn a starting spot on their squad. In essence they schedule "volunteer" workouts that are essentially mandatory for their players to play in t...

I understand where you’re coming from Mr Zeiders. Very good explanation. South actually has traveled out of town more than they’ve wrestled at home the past few years. Many of the supporters complained that we didn’t have enough home matches. New South AD, Roger Thompson, asked if the team could ge...

I don't like South. However, they clearly have an impressive level of talent on their team and kudos to them for being recognized on a national level. That's a big accomplishment. Clearly not all of their wrestlers grew up in Parkersburg, but I would venture to guess that more of their wrestlers beg...
