Re: "Wrestle Ins"
I kind of like the idea of adding each regions 5th place wrestler to the state tournament. Not for the fact of benefiting one region over another but to award the athletes for the months of hard work. Add a Pigtail round on Thursday evening and let them face a fourth-place winner from another region...

Peyton Hall
I would like for this thread to be dedicated just for WV wrestling fans showing their appreciation to Peyton Hall and for what he has done in his career at WVU. After last night's victory at the All-Star Classic Peyton once again gave WV wrestling fans something good to cheer for and to be proud of....

This is the second match in a row that Jett Strickenberger has wrestled 133, I wonder if this is going to be a thing from here on out.

Re: Signing Day
Leo Contino is a fantastic last-minute commitment. I believe he finished 8th at Super 32 and will fill a hole in the lineup, next year, at either 157 or 165 pounds. The recruiting class of 2025 started off fairly slow but has recently grown into pretty good form with the addition of these three guys...

Re: WVU vs Glenville
Kyle Homet was a very good High School wrestler from Waynesburg, PA, so I don't know that I would call his victory over Ian Bush an upset. I would call it a surprise because most people have never heard of him, and I have not heard his name since he was in High School. With him and Nick Johnson back...

Re: Wrestles offs?
Hopefully Ian’s progress resembles that of Noah Adams. Year one was mediocre at best, year two was better but still had up and downs, and year three was like a rocket ship. It would be nice to see another WV native to compete for an All American finish to the year.

Re: New WVSSAC Rule
If it is during the season and someone participating on a team that has a competition on the same day as a college open tournament, I can clearly see where the powers that be may not like the appearance of this. I still think it’s a bit of overreach on their part, as long as an athlete has the permi...

Re: Wrestles offs?
OK....I guess I don't get the point of that post. You seem offended that no one mentioned Ian's name to win the wrestle off. Up until now he has given me no reason to think that he was going to crack the starting lineup. Two years ago, he took his redshirt year while Anthony Carmen held the spot and...

Re: New WVSSAC Rule
I am guessing this rule applies to high school athletes being able to compete in NCAA Open tournaments. I see no other reason for an athlete competing for another team. As far as needing permission to go practice, or to go workout, on an off day, this certainly seems like an overreach to me.

Re: Wrestles offs?
I'm guessing if Dennis Robin is ranked 24 and Ian Bush beat him in wrestle offs, that would make Ian's ranking no lower than 23. Right? Don't get too caught up with this one match, Ian won with a takedown in the last 10 seconds. Although I did see improvement with Ian from last year, there is no sep...

Re: Wrestles offs?
Letsgooo is correct in saying that Hoke has had some success in freestyle wrestling. He had a pretty good finish and beat some pretty good guys in what I believe was the U.S. Open tournament last year. He is clearly a 184 pounder and needs more mat time to compete at this level. He held position goo...

Re: WVU Lineup Early Look
It will be interesting to see if Hillegas has added enough size to be competitive at 157 and if Shawn Taylor is cutting too much weight to be competitive at that weight as well. You also have Michael Dolan in there as well, he has never consistently cracked the starting line-up but has always been c...

Re: WVU Lineup Early Look
Typically, WVU does not have an inter squad dual as a part of their wrestle offs. They do a bracketed mini tournament for each weight class. I prefer this style because it gives you a chance to watch most everyone wrestle at least 2 times. They usually do not post the brackets or match ups beforehan...

very nice list. I would add Jovani solis from Florida to your watchlist. he's a freshman that could be Floridas first 6x state champ. I watched him beat 3 division 1 commits last year as a 8th grader. he could be the best freshman p4p in the country. Very nice. With well over 2,000 participants I m...

Re: Watters announced for All Star classic
Also at the All-Star Classic Peyton Hall will be wrestling Hunter Garvin from Stanford. Garvin is a Soph. this year and finished 6th last year at the National Tournament.
I would expect both Ty Watters and Peyton Hall to represent WVU well and hopefully this will pay dividends on future recruiting.

WVU Lineup Early Look
With the new roster posted lets discuss some possible ways the lineup could look. Most of the weight classes are set but a few have some question marks. Lets discuss: 125: Jett should be the guy, but he obviously had some weight issues last year. Do we see him in this spot all year, does he move up ...

Super 32
The Super 32 tournament is just 2 weeks away and for me that marks the beginning of wrestling season. For the last few years, I have gone through all the current entries, studied most of the state champions, and made a list of one or two guys from each state to keep an eye on. This year there are 46...

Could you give us some names? To say that these teams are getting one or two new guys from other teams is good information but without saying who the new guys are kind of makes the point mute.

They brought in Tommy Maddox as a transfer from Buffalo University who may or may not be much of an improvement for Davin Rhoads. They also have several incoming freshmen that could earn the spot: Anthony and Joseph Clem, Mason Kernan, Brycen Arbogast, and Tyler Wood. This is one of only a couple of...

Re: NCAA scholarship limit increase
These changes are not supposed to take effect until next year, the 2025-2026 season. I'm not sure how much of an impact on the team it will be going from 36 or 37 down to 30, other than it will obviously eliminate some practice partners. However, I can't see the university spending money on 30 schol...

Re: 24/25 outlook
I agree with NJWVU, you put the best possible team on the mat. Flynn just got the ball rolling last year and if you regress this year that will hurt recruitment for the next year or so. You have to show future recruits that WVU is a place you can win and the only way to do that is to put the best te...

Re: 24/25 outlook
WVU keeping some of the best talent in state is good news all the way around. Gunner Andrick and Brock Kehler are very solid additions for the class of 2025. They have also recently got a commitment from Casen Roark, from Tennessee, who is another Top 120 recruit.
