Re: Super 32

very nice list. I would add Jovani solis from Florida to your watchlist. he's a freshman that could be Floridas first 6x state champ. I watched him beat 3 division 1 commits last year as a 8th grader. he could be the best freshman p4p in the country. Very nice. With well over 2,000 participants I m...

Re: Watters announced for All Star classic

Also at the All-Star Classic Peyton Hall will be wrestling Hunter Garvin from Stanford. Garvin is a Soph. this year and finished 6th last year at the National Tournament.

I would expect both Ty Watters and Peyton Hall to represent WVU well and hopefully this will pay dividends on future recruiting.

WVU Lineup Early Look

With the new roster posted lets discuss some possible ways the lineup could look. Most of the weight classes are set but a few have some question marks. Lets discuss: 125: Jett should be the guy, but he obviously had some weight issues last year. Do we see him in this spot all year, does he move up ...

Super 32

The Super 32 tournament is just 2 weeks away and for me that marks the beginning of wrestling season. For the last few years, I have gone through all the current entries, studied most of the state champions, and made a list of one or two guys from each state to keep an eye on. This year there are 46...

Could you give us some names? To say that these teams are getting one or two new guys from other teams is good information but without saying who the new guys are kind of makes the point mute.

Re: WVU recruiting

They brought in Tommy Maddox as a transfer from Buffalo University who may or may not be much of an improvement for Davin Rhoads. They also have several incoming freshmen that could earn the spot: Anthony and Joseph Clem, Mason Kernan, Brycen Arbogast, and Tyler Wood. This is one of only a couple of...

Re: NCAA scholarship limit increase

These changes are not supposed to take effect until next year, the 2025-2026 season. I'm not sure how much of an impact on the team it will be going from 36 or 37 down to 30, other than it will obviously eliminate some practice partners. However, I can't see the university spending money on 30 schol...

Re: 24/25 outlook

I agree with NJWVU, you put the best possible team on the mat. Flynn just got the ball rolling last year and if you regress this year that will hurt recruitment for the next year or so. You have to show future recruits that WVU is a place you can win and the only way to do that is to put the best te...

Re: 24/25 outlook

WVU keeping some of the best talent in state is good news all the way around. Gunner Andrick and Brock Kehler are very solid additions for the class of 2025. They have also recently got a commitment from Casen Roark, from Tennessee, who is another Top 120 recruit.

I would assume if Cooley was transferring out he would be listed in the transfer portal, which he is not or hasn’t been. Wrestlestat still has plenty of guys who are in the transfer portal listed as being on the rosters they are transferring from. But to the point of Cooley being around for Rune’s f...

The 157 pound wrestler from Ohio University you are referring to is Peyton Kellar. I was unaware that he was in the transfer portal. This would be a surprise if it is true because he grew up about 30 from their campus and has attended their camps from a very young age. As a fan of that team, it woul...

Transfer Portal

Just seen where Tommy Askey, from App State, is in the transfer portal. He was a Round of 12 finisher this year at 157 pounds and has one more year of eligibility left. As much as I like Dowling, this would be an improvement at that spot and sandwiched in between Watters and Hall that might be enoug...

Are you sure it’s because of money that they haven’t made coach McBride a full time coach? 184,197, and HWT didn’t qualify for NCAAs this year, whereas last year both Cooley and Wolfgram did. Maybe they aren’t getting the results that they are looking for with McBride and need a different big man c...

The biggest problem with the NIL system is that it is very loosely regulated and there are too many loopholes that don't protect the smaller schools from the larger schools who want to poach their athletes. The only way Ty Watters or any other rostered athlete should be allowed to be contacted by a ...

Consistent top 15 is realistic, consistent top 10 is a big jump but doable with the lots of right kind of support, My idea there didn't come across very clear. Re: WVU recruiting

I totally agree with the sentiment. It is only realistic to have 5-6 guys in the lineup that can contend for an All American finish, and the others to be qualifiers winning a match or two at the national tournament. This kind of lineup sound a lot like what they have Va. Tech and that aint so bad.

I have it on high authority that Wren Baker is a big fan of the WVMAT college wrestling forum. Not really, I made that up but lets hope he sees this. Jett’s knee was definitely hurting him, I hate to see him go 0-2 but it is what it is. Hopefully next year he makes the jump to 133 where he can concentrate more on wrestling and not on cutting weight. I won’t say that I disagree with your idea because your premise is spot on. However, it’s just not recruiting kids that coaches have to worry about these days. Top talent is garnering big money from NIL deals and when it comes to money Penn State is a bottomless pit. With the rules set as they are, ...
